Child/Adolescent Therapy

Trusting the therapist you choose to work with your child is important. A good provider for children should be warm, inviting, supportive, and be able to provide concrete steps to help children of all ages reach their goals. At Thoughtful Bloom Therapy, I strive to be a calm, supportive, and helpful professional in your child’s life. Below I have highlighted the ages and concerns I work with, my training, and the approachs I use when working with children and their families.

  • Ages 3 to 17

  • ADHD, Autism, Anxiety, Depression, Self-Harm/Suicide, Behavioral Issues, School Avoidance, Divorce, Trauma, Adjustment with Life Transitions

  • Training in Play Therapy (client centered and solution focused), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Executive Functioning Skills/Support

  • My approach is always child-centered meaning I focus heavily on the power of the therapeutic relationship. When a child/adolescent feels heard, accepted, and connects well with their therapist, their ability to learn and utilize helpful skills from therapy increases.

  • While goals for each child differ, my hope is that our therapy helps children to cope positively with tough situations, increase emotional regulation skills, and improve relationships with others.

What will therapy look like for my child?

The first step in our work together is an intake appointment. This session typically lasts one hour, and the attendees depend on the child's age and your specific concerns. For children aged eight or younger, I prefer to meet with caregivers first to discuss the information necessary to understand your child’s current needs. For older children, they may attend the intake with their caregivers or wait to meet me during the second appointment. During the intake, we will focus on getting to know your child, understanding what brought you to counseling, and reviewing important paperwork.

Follow-up appointments are scheduled based on your family's needs, typically once a week or biweekly when starting therapy. Please note that I am generally unable to schedule sessions more than once per week; if more frequent support is required, I can provide appropriate referrals.

After four appointments, we will collaboratively create a treatment plan to guide our progress toward your family's goals. I want this process to feel like a partnership, so please feel free to ask any questions regarding my policies, approach, or the therapy process in general.
