Child/Adolescent Therapy

Trusting the therapist you chose to work with your child is important. A good provider for children should be warm, inviting, supportive, and be able to provide concrete steps to help children of all ages reach their goals. At Thoughtful Bloom Therapy, I strive to be a calm, supportive, and helpful professional in your child’s life. Below I have highlighted ages and concerns I work with, training I have, and the approach I use when working with children and their families.

  • Ages 3 to 17

  • ADHD, Autism, Anxiety, Depression, Self-Harm/Suicide, Behavioral Issues, School Avoidance, Divorce, Trauma, Adjustment with Life Transitions

  • Training in Play Therapy (client centered and solution focused), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Executive Functioning Skills/Support

  • My approach is always child-centered meaning I focus a lot on the power of the therapeutic relationship. When a child/adolescent feels heard, accepted, and connects well with their therapist, their ability to learn and utilize helpful skills from therapy increases.

  • While goals for each child are different, my hope is our therapy helps children to better cope with tough situations, better handle emotions, and have better relationships with others.

What will therapy look like for my child?

The first step is an intake for therapy. This is generally an hour and who attends depends on age and concerns. For younger children (typically 8 or younger) I like to meet with Caregivers first for the intake so we can go over all the information that helps me understand what your child’s current struggles are. For older children, they can come with their Caregivers to the intake appointment or wait to meet me during the second followup appointment. Intake appointments are about getting to know the child, what has brought them to counseling, and reviewing important paperwork.

Follow up appointments can be as often as children/families feel they need to come. Typically appointments are once a week or biweekly when starting therapy. It is important families know that I am usually not able to do more than once a week appointments and appropriate referrals may be made if a child needs more than once a week appointments.

Once I have met with a child/family for four appointments, I will create a treatment plan with the family that will help guide the therapy journey toward goals we create collaboratively.

I always want the therapy journey to feel collaborative. Please feel free to ask me questions regarding any of my policies, approach to therapy, or concerns/questions about therapy.
